3 Barre Props You Have at Home Right Now

Is the thought of having to purchase loads of exercise equipment holding you back from doing a barre workout from home? What if I told you you already have everything you need to Barre Where You Are?! With just a little bit of creativity and a quick search around the house, you can start right where you are for zero dollars invested in exercise equipment, which also means you have zero excuses to not get your sweat on!

1.) Canned Goods for Weights. Yup, you know all those garbanzo beans, chunky clam chowder soup and green bean cans you have stocked up in the pantry? Those are the perfect size for light hand weights! You only need 1-2 lbs to really feel the barre burn! If for some reason you’ve never had to prepare for a hurricane or post-apocalypse and don’t have any canned goods readily available, small filled water bottles work great as well! I’ve even seen wine bottles used before, but I’m not quite sure what their true intent was for them ;)

2.) Small Pillow for Pilates Ball. In barre, we commonly use the small Pilates Ball for two main reasons: to provide support for the lower back during abdominal work and to provide resistance for the inner thighs when placed in between the legs. Guess what you already have laying around that can also do both of those things? A small decorative pillow from your couch! You will place and use it just as demonstrated with the ball. A rolled up towel will also do the trick!

3.) Washcloth for Gliders. Nothing fills me with more joy than multi-tasking! If you are on a smooth surface (hardwood floors, tile or linoleum) you can use a washcloth as your glider and you’ll get to workout and clean your floors at the same time! A sock will also work as well. If you are working out on carpet you can use a paper plate, piece of cardboard or your dog’s frisbee for the perfect glider replacement.

Bam! Who said doing barre from home was going to call for lots of new equipment? I just gave you the top three most used barre props that you already have at home right now! So go grab two canned goods, the pillow off your sofa and a washcloth and meet me at the barre! Which is your dining room table chair, obviously!
