Why You Should Teach the Same Playlist Multiple Times a Week

Are you feeling burnt out always trying to create new playlists and programs multiple times a week? Overwhelmed with all the different choreography swimming around your head? Running out of fresh ideas and new music to bring to your classes? I come bearing a big tip that will help lift all those burdens off your instructor shoulders! Why not try teaching the same playlist in your classes multiple times a week? I know it may seem a bit original, but it’s one of the biggest things I encourage during our Instructor Trainings and I am here to share the secret sauce with you as well!

1.) Benefits Your Clients. Your first thought or fear may be “But Heather, won’t my classes be bored?” And I will answer you with a resounding “NOPE!” Quite the opposite in fact. I just wrote an entire blog last month on why clients themselves should do the same playlist more than once or twice a week, but to briefly recap, in my 7+ year experience in group fitness I have always followed the rule of teaching the same playlist/workout multiple times a week and my clients actually feel the opposite of bored! They feel empowered and in charge of their workout. We already know repetition is key when introducing a new exercise and that rule doesn’t change when it comes to repeating a playlist. With each time during a week they do the same workout, they are able to become more familiar with it and can tailor it to their needs with any specific modifications or changes. They are also able to more effectively track their progress. Perhaps on Day 1 they found they needed to take a break during the plank series, Day 2 they could add another 30 seconds to it and by Day 3 they could complete the entire series! My clients also love to nknow what crazy good things are coming their way!

2.) Benefits You. So now you know how much repeating the same playlist multiple times a week benefits those who take your classes, but maybe now you are thinking “Ok Heather, they won’t be bored, but won’t I get bored?!” And once again I will answer you with a resounding “NOPE!” With each time you repeat the workout, you will get deeper into new levels of teaching you hadn’t tapped in to before when you were always having to recreate and change things up. You will be able to better focus on your clients instead of the choreography like offering appropriate modifications, make transitions smoother and perfect your cueing! Plus, you will be able to spend more time teaching/coaching/instructing and working the business side of barre instead of wasting time multiple times a week looking for new music and programming.

So have I convinced you yet to come over to the dark, I mean easy, side and start teaching the same playlist all week long to your classes?! Not only will your clients thank you but the abundance of time you will now have available to do what you are actually paid to do (teach/instruct/coach!) is incentive enough!

Ready to make your playlists and workouts worth repeating?! Then you will definitely want to register for our next “Raising the Barre” workshop and take your classes to the next level! Register here!

Cheers,
